NASB | Joshua 20:6 'He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the one who is high priest in those days. Then the manslayer shall return to his own city and to his own house, to the city from which he fled.'" |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Joshua 20:6 'He shall live in that city until he has stood before the congregation for judgment [and if acquitted of murder he must stay there], until the death of the one who is the high priest in those days. Then the offender (manslayer) shall return to his own city and his own house from which he fled.'" |
Subject: Death of the high priest? |
Bible Note: Isn't it interesting that although the death was "accidental" or not intentional, it was still punishable by the victim's relatives? There was a reason to run and a need for refuge. I see a parallel with people today who are unaware of sin in their lives. They don't know that they are under the sentence of death; they are unaware of their need for refuge and most importantly, their need of The Savior! And for believer, I find that all too often we may be inclined to wink at sin by thinking, "It's OK, I didn't mean to do it!" But in God's Universe, sin is never OK! Thanks be to Jesus for making a Way for us to take refuge in Him, to be made righteous, and restored! Thanks for making me think this through! |
