Bible Question:
Reading John:30-33 I'm having a hard time understanding. the circumstances where God gave manna to the Israelites,I think they wanted God to perform so that they could believe. Manna looked like bread? Did Moses really give in, I think he didn't,because he didn't give them the Manna,I think that Jesus gave them a wonderful gift, spiritual food..i think the people wanted Jesus to give then a sign when they connected Moses to Jesus. This is a hard to understand. Thanks |
Bible Answer: Joshua 16 Israel was just miraculously delivered from Egypt by God through Moses. They began to murmor and complain that at least in Egypt they had plenty of food... Jesus perceived that the heart of the matter here was food. These were seeking him for food. He is trying to get them to look beyond their stomach (fleshly desires) to the spiritual. He was offering the 'food for the spirit'. Three things to consider.. 1. Was it a miraculous sign they were seeking really? Jesus does not think so because He said you came seeking food. 2. Just as Israel murmored against Moses and accusing him as if he was the one who brought them out..these were saying give us manna 'as Moses' did. These are totally carnal minded and see Jesus as another Moses and not as the Son of God. Thus Jesus says Moses did not give you manna, my Father did. 3.The request for manna to 'prove' God sent Jesus was a carnal attempt to manipulate Jesus into giving them food. They already had many miracles to look at for a 'sign'. Their hearts were carnal and hardened. Yes Jesus wants to give them spiritual food and is trying to get them to look beyond the carnal. I believe if you will read where Jesus said Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. (MY EMPHASIS ON FIRST)This is the essence of what Jesus is saying here in John..Seek the spiritual first, God will provide the rest. Does that help? |
