Bible Question:
I am new to really delving deeply into the Word of God. At this time I am studying the Book of Joshua, and would like to better understand the significance and history of the Reubenites, Gadites, and half-tribe of Manasseh. (Joshua 1:12) Why are these tribes given the land on the other side of the Jordan instead of crossing over to possess the same land as the rest of the tribes of Israel? What is the significance of the "half-tribe" of Manasseh? (I know that Reuben and Gad are Jacob's 1st born and 7th born sons by Leah and her maid Zilpah, and Manasseh is Joseph's oldest son - though Ephraim was blessed first by Jacob - and both were taken by Jacob as his own sons. What Bible verses and other tools can I study to obtain more information on these tribes? Thank you, and may the LORD continue to bless you with His wisdom and understanding in all things in Christ Jesus. AMEN Deborah Psalm 19:7-14 |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... "The Reubenites and Gadites, who had very large herds and flocks, saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock" (Num 32:1). God's day to you, Deborah, I think the 2.5 tribes lost sight of the promise of God because of what their phyiscal eyes saw. The same was true for Eve ... "When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was desirable to make one wise, she took from its fruit and ate; and she gave also to her husband with her, and he ate" (Gen 3:6). Lot also looked at what appeared to be the best (Gen 13:10). I wouldn't put too much stock in the birth order.
