AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God--it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]. |
Bible Question:
Think about this: If you were to stand in the pulpit and ask the congregation, "By show of hands, how many of you believe in the effectiveness of prayer?" You would think that a very great majority would raise their hands in enthusiasm, right? Right! I think the same way, but I get discouraged at the number that shows up for prayer service; and that in relation to the number that comes to Sunday morning services...we have 2. I understand the scripture about where 2 or 3 are gathered... This is not about that. This is about a people living with conviction. I used prayer as just one example, but take your pick. It could be bible study or any of the disciplines. If this describes you, discipline yourselves! Draw nigh to God and He will draw nigh unto you! Stop waiting on God to act, because God is waiting for you to step out in faith. Fight the good fight of faith! |
Bible Answer: Matthew 18:19-20 (NKJV) "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." '18:19 if two of you agree on earth. This promise applies to the issue of discipline discussed in vv. 15-17. The "two of you" spoken of here harks back to the two or three witnesses involved in step two of the discipline process..."two or three witnesses" gathered in His name for the purpose of discipline.' ____________________ The MacArthur Study Bible, Word Publishing, 1997 |
