NASB | James 4:11 ¶ Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | James 4:11 ¶ Believers, do not speak against or slander one another. He who speaks [self-righteously] against a brother or judges his brother [hypocritically], speaks against the Law and judges the Law. If you judge the Law, you are not a doer of the Law but a judge of it. |
Bible Question: How could I, in judging my brother, break the law, unless it is refering to the royal law of love as in 2:8, for 1 Cor 13:5 says love does not take a wrong into account? |
Bible Answer: We must not confuse our Christian responsibility to hold one another accountable with the references written in the epistle of James.. As Christians it is essential that we judge the moral conduct of fellow believers in order to maintain the integrity of the church (Body of Christ).. 1 Cor 5:11 But now I write to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of [Christian] brother if he is known to be guilty of immorality or greed, or is an idolater [whose soul is devoted to any object that usurps the place of God], or is a person with a foul tongue [railing, abusing, reviling, slandering], or is a drunkard or a swindler or a robber. [No] you must not so much as eat with such a person. 1 Cor 5:12 What [business] of mine is it and what right have I to judge outsiders? Is it not those inside [the church] upon whom you are to pass disciplinary judgment [passing censuring sentence on them as the facts require]? 1 Cor 5:13 God alone sits in judgment on those who are outside. Drive out that wicked one from among you [expel him from your church]. However we must recognize that we are given guidelines for judging and or for handling offenses..these guidlines are as follows Matt 18:15 If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault, between you and him privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. Matt 18:16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed and upheld by the testimony of two or three witnesses. Matt 18:17 If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a pagan and a tax collector Yes 1Cor 13:5 says love does not take into account a suffered wrong... But that is only after there is repentence for that wrong.. Psa 7:11, God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry [with the wicked] every day. ... Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. |
