Bible Question:
My NASB Bible (Zodhiates Key Word Study Bible) has several differences from all of the online versions I look at and I was wondering what the reason was behind that. For example, James 1:6 in my Bible states "But let him ask in faith without any doubting...". All online versions that I have looked at state "But he must ask in faith without any doubting...". There are many others like this. I know it is a small thing but my daughter is memorizing scripture and I have chosen the NASB as the best translation for her to do so. I would hate to find that she has been memorizing something wrong. Any ideas what is going on here? Thank you Lance Albury |
Bible Answer: Greetings Lance! I can't speak for other translators, but 'ask' in v. 6 is an imperative verb. I would simply translate it as 'But ask in faith'. The addition of 'must' (to me) distracts from the fact that the verb is an imperative or command. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
