Bible Question: Does it do any good to pray for someone after they have passed away? |
Bible Answer: Hi, Creekrat... Welcome to the forum! Since after death comes judgment, it would be pointless to pray for the dead. The dead are in a condition of judgment that cannot be changed, improved, or mitigated. For the saved, they are in glory, blessed beyond anything we might conceive. For the lost, they are in condemnation, cursed beyond anything we might conceive. God's dealing with both of these groups of people is perfect, just, and right. There is nothing in it that is deficient or inadequate. Indeed, praying for them would be implying that God should or ought to do something differently than that which He has done; i.e., it is to impute to Him something less than perfection. If we are to intercede, let us intercede for the living, that they might repent and submit to the Lord God their creator. In Him, Doc |
