Bible Question:
If all sacrafices should have ended with Jesus death and resurrection, then why did Paul participate in sacarfices in Acts 21? And in Acts 21 it was the James and the "elders" who urged Paul to participate with certain men in what appears to have been a Nazarite Vow. MJH |
Bible Answer: MJH, it appears within the context of this chapter that Paul participated in the purification ceremony to show his fidelity to the law. We know that he paid for the expenses of the four men to have their heads shaved (as is the custom for a Nazarite vow), what we do not know is if he actually took the vow himself or merely went to be purified. As for the sacrifies (or offering) you mentioned that was part of the Levitical law. An offering had to be made at the end of the purification. And Paul was trying to show the Jews (who were about to kill him) that he was just as religious as they were). The sacrifices did not end with the death and resurrection of Jesus. They ended with the destruction of the temple. |
