Bible Note: Dear Dr. Aixen, The greatest proponents of universalism are Unitarians. However, this view is held by quite a few denominations of the more liberal variety. I've even seen television comercials in recent years assuring the viewers that Christ's atoned efficaciously for all men. However, it crops up in other groups from time to time. For example, G. K. Chesterton once wrote, "To hope for all souls is imperative; and it is quite tenable that their salvation is inevitable." Although this expression could be called universalism, Chesterton wasn't really a theologian, so I'd hesitate to apply his thinking to the Church of Rome as a whole. Just a few pieces of information I thought you'd find interesting. In Him, Doc |
