AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things [His promise and His oath] in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled [to Him] for refuge would have strong encouragement and indwelling strength to hold tightly to the hope set before us. |
Subject: Does the Bible ever lie? |
Bible Note: Praisemaster, I denote a possible semantics problem you seem to be having with your question and your comment on it. Let me amplify what I mean. The question being asked is, Does the Bible ever lie? We may answer that in the negative, because God says that His word is truth. Now your point of difficulty seems to rest in the fact that since some of Satan's words are in the Bible, and since Satan is a liar and the father of lies, then why would it not follow that the Bible, since it contains some of Satan's remarks which are lies, is itself lying? It would be lying in a real sense if it sanctioned or endorsed any of Satan's lies, but it doesn't. It refutes them and condemns them in the strongest terms. If you tell a friend that bird dogs can fly, you are telling him a lie. If you tell a friend that some wind bag down at the barber shop told you a tall tale that bird dogs can fly, you are not lying; you are merely relating (and refuting) what some liar said. There is a vast difference between the two. --Hank |
