Subject: Did Jesus experence real temptation? |
Bible Note: Dear Wormword, Okay... but who said that Jesus could not be tempted? Scripture clearly teaches that He was tempted. So says the above verse (Hebrews 4:15). See also Matthew 4:1, etc. Temptation is not simply a matter of victory or defeat. It is a test of quality. Temptation reveals a man's true nature (1 Peter 1:7). By analogy, an assayed brick of gold is worth more than an un-assayed brick of gold. The results of the assay prove the purity of the gold. A brick of pure gold cannot fail the test, but the test is still performed in order to prove its worth to everyone. In addition, we can only infer what Satan was thinking. Although his intelligence is, no doubt, substantial, he is not omniscient. We know that he has been and continues to be mistaken about many things.
