Bible Question:
Some commentaries state that the "one" mentioned in this verse is the believer. While others indicate that this is not to be understood as the believer, but rather as Jesus Christ Himself. Frankly, I rather prefer the latter interpretation since it fits so nicely in with the rest of the chapter. I am curious about how others might see this. If you would be so kind as to respond, if possible please substantiate your opinion with scripture. :-) |
Bible Answer: Hebrews 4:3 (ESV) For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. Hebrews 4:8-10 (ESV) For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. [9] So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, [10] for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. In context, it appears that the subject of the verse is "whoever" ("we who have believed" v.3, "the people of God" v.9). |
