Bible Question:
This verse is supposed to be me… a Christian… a person who has accepted Jesus Christ into my heart… so then… consider (think, judge, deem, mull over, reflect on, believe) Jesus. I think of how God has called me to know Him more, more deeply… not just on a shallow worship foundation, but a more intimate walk… where do I go from here as I read this above verse? I know that I have a passion to know Him more.. I feel a determined purpose ignited in my soul! (Philippians 3:10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly]) I know this is what I want, but clearly my plans and my purposes interfere with this… clearly I want my own way, my frustration, discouragement and lack of trust witnesses to this. I want God to do things my way, I want to dictate my plan.. I think it is better.. I think I know best what I want. I wonder if the problem is found in the above verse where it says if I am consecrated and set apart for God … Who share in the heavenly calling… What is the heavenly calling? Do I share in it? Is my heart undivided when it comes to the heavenly calling? I don’t know. I am not sure what this heavenly calling refers to. Do any of these verses explain the heavenly calling? Is there a verse that does? I want to know if I am sharing in the heavenly calling! Philippians 3:14 (amplified) I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. John 17:3 (amplified) "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Philippians 3:3 (amplified) For we [Christians] are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit and by the Spirit of God and exult and glory and pride ourselves in Jesus Christ, and put no confidence or dependence [on what we are] in the flesh and on outward privileges and physical advantages and external appearances-- |
Bible Answer: Greetings! Just as God called Abram to leave his country and go to a land that God would show him, we too are called to leave the kingdom of this world and become citizens of the Kingdom of God. Our destination is to dwell in the "Promised Land" - Heaven. (Phil 3:20) Do see 21564 (written by Tim Moran) Whenever a verse begins with "therefore" I ask, "What's it there for?" and check the previous verse. "For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted." Heb 2:18 Our heavenly calling is what is in store for us, but right now, we are told to "consider Jesus." To me, this is the most important aspect of this verse. Why do you think we told to "consider" Him? Could it be that it is because we are citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom, living in enemy territory? You do realize this! And so you are tempted . . . to want your own way, you want God to do things your way etc. And yet you desire to walk intimately with the Lord. This indeed is the struggle common to most of us! Jesus is there to help you with all the issues that draw you away, for He was tempted too. He calls you to engage in spiritual warfare with Him - the battle is for your mind, BUT your heart belongs to God, you are secure in your "heavenly calling." You vacillate between two masters - but "greater is He who is in you that he who is in the world!" (1 John 4:4) Are you considering Jesus? He has secured for you an inheritance in Heaven - and walks with you daily until that Day when He welcomes you home . . . I hope you will be encouraged to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith! (Heb 12:2) Blessings, mommmapbs |
