Bible Question:
I recently read this passage in a book by a pastor I have a good deal of respect for: God created man for the purpose of resolving the angelic conflict (Heb. 2:7; Isa. 43:7). Is this accurate? My belief is that God created us to love Him. Are these two ideas in agreement? |
Bible Answer: The book of Hebrews was written for the Jews who had accepted Jesus as Messiah. They were in danger of slipping back into the traditions of Judaism because they had not put down the roots in the soil of Christianity. The author of Hebrews is unknown but we do know that God inspired him, just as He has inspired the authors of the other books of the bible. The book of Hebrews appeals to the Greek mind as well as the Jewish mind. The Greeks saw everything on earth as the shadow cast by what was real, so they were always searching for reality. Hebrews prsents Jesus as reality. The Jews were searching for a way to approach God because historically they had felt too unholy to approach Him. Hebrews presents Jesus as the approach. Chapter 2 is the Humanity of Christ. v.6 Christ visited us when He became man. v.7 Refers to: man was made lower than the angels, but was put over God's creations. v.8 Man forfeited the earth to satan and now creation is not subject to man. Isa. 43:5,6 God predicts the regathering of the Jewish people to Israel. v.7 The word "bara" translanted "created", from the Hebrews means "something created out of nothing. v.10,11 God is declaring there is no other God but Himself and no other god is to come. Yes my friend, God created us to have an relationship with Him and to Love Him, but God also wanted us to dominate the earth, ALL of his creation. Gods Blessings! |
