Bible Question:
As i walk this life with Jesus, the God of the universe the question returns to me time and again. Why do i beleive? There have been countless books on the subject and a good one i read was written by D.James Kennedy that made sense, yet when the question is posed the answer is not readily at my tongue and i fear to stumble at the response. It is not a "feel-good" testimony and there never seems to be just the right "deeply convicting" answer. Why do i beleive? |
Bible Answer: Pro 14:12; Mat 18:4, 21:32; Mar 5:36; Rom 10:14; Eph 2:8; Heb 11:1-2, 6 AdHikim, greeting and welcome to the forum, We should know why we believe. I like Kennedy's book, as well as others. But we each need to do a study ourselves why we believe. An example just came to mind. The first time I baked a cake, I had to believe the directions would produce the right results. Even if I have seen oth-ers do it and have them teach me ... I still had to believe that I could do it. Romans 10:14 comes to mind (context vv 9-15). I need to hear the Gos-pel so I can believe. Hebrews 11:1-2, 6 shows be it takes faith. It is not based on something I see. For some they see what/how Christ has done in another's life. But, some will not change (Mat 21:32). Until I take the step and bake a cake, I cannot be a cake baker. We need to be humble (Matt 18:4, context vv 2-6). We let what we think is right get in the way. If we continue, we will die (Pro 14:12). If I bake a cake my way, it will not be right ... I would not eat it. Mark 5:36 indicates that fear is a barrier, too (context vv 35-36). We may be afraid of what others will say ... or because we don't know the future. Again, we need faith. Faith is a gift from God (Eph 2:8 ... context vv 8-10). I may fear that something that will go wrong ... but, if I follow the di-rections, it will work. Doubt is another barrier (Mar 11:24 ... context 22-24). When we cast out all doubts, we can believe. I may doubt I can bake a cake, because I have no talent in baking, fixing cars and other things. I need to follow the directions. The directions for believing in the Word of God ... we need to follow it. Searcher |
