Bible Note: Belmaree, in your reference to the churches "back then" I take it to mean the churches in apostolic times. But we err to think that those churches were "unlike today where corruption rules." The thrust of a number of the New Testament letters was to condemn error and set the church back on the path of sound doctrine. There has always be heresy in churches. It isn't something that sprang from whole cloth in the last few decades in the history of the Christian church. The nostalgic good old days had their share of false teachers not unlike what we have in our time. To search the Scriptures to see if those things were so was what the Bereans had to do to stay on the right track (Acts 17:11) and in like manner so do we. --Hank |
