NASB | Hebrews 10:1 For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hebrews 10:1 For since the Law has only a shadow [just a pale representation] of the good things to come--not the very image of those things--it can never, by offering the same sacrifices continually year after year, make perfect those who approach [its altars]. |
Bible Question:
Does anyone know how this is a shadow of things to come? I understand verse 16, but verse 17 has me a little confused. Thank you for your help. colossians 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. |
Bible Answer: Hi, winningside... These passages speak of the our relationship to the law. The writer of Hebrews makes very similar statements in Hebrews 8:5 and 10:1. Even some of our practices today are simply "foreshadowing" of what is to be realized in glory. In Him, Doc |
