Bible Question: How much "more" do we need than God's word -- the Scriptures? I hear people on many of these cable TV religious programs asking for "the anointing" or some special, tailor-made revelation from God. I hear them say, "God told me this or God told me that." They seem always to want more -- more than what God has revealed in His word. Have we become a generation of "Oliver Twist" Christians, saying to God, "Please, sir, I want some more" (See Dickens' Oliver Twist, Chapter 2). Is God's word as revealed in Holy Scripture incomplete? Does each of us require special revelation, special treatment -- indeed, individual tutoring -- from Almighty God? Critique this modern TV "gospel" that is being pumped into the homes of America. What's wrong with wanting "more" -- more revelation, more assurance, more of everything spiritual than the word of God comprehends? --Hank |
Bible Answer: I can maybe answer part of your questions. "Is God's word as revealed in Holy Scripture incomplete?" No we know that it is complete. Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. Those TV religious programs of course has thier own strategy of converting people or to gather people to join thier congregation. You write they all say "God told me this" or "God told me that" but this are personal claim that God revealed this to them. It thier own claim that God told them things to do but the question is are they saying the truth. For example the scripture stated: Mt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? Mt 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Too many will say to Jesus Christ those things but questions is it is not Jesus claiming that they done this things but they claim it themselves. I am not saying that those TV religious program are wrong, but we can see thier fruit through thier fruits we can assure that they are truly with GOD, because Good tree will not have Evil fruit: Mt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. Mt 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. God bless, Johnny |
