AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed [given by divine inspiration] and is profitable for instruction, for conviction [of sin], for correction [of error and restoration to obedience], for training in righteousness [learning to live in conformity to God's will, both publicly and privately--behaving honorably with personal integrity and moral courage]; |
Bible Question:
Is the bible literal in regards to history and creation? Timothy 3:16 depicts the bible as being a source for living or a guide. It doesn't directly or indirectly apply that the bible is literal. With that being said, how do we distibguish metaphors, parables, and symbols? None of these ideas take away from Timothy 3:16. When discusiing creation you are lead to believe that the bible is literal? Where is the proof that the Genesis creation story should be read as such? |
Bible Answer: Literal. The words used in Genesis are translated to mean exactly what they say. The word for "day" must be a 24 hour day and not some figurative span of time, otherwise the use of the word "day" in other books would not make sense. This is consistant with what we observe. The Earth is only a few tens of thousands of years old, not 4-5 billion. There are hundreds of geo-cronometers or Earth clocks that prove this. Over 99 percent of these clocks support a young Earth. Unfortunatly, we are taught otherwise. Example: The existance of comets. Comets slowly break up as they pass the sun. After 2 million years, even the largest, least frequent comet, would no longer exist. Because there are still comets, creation occured less that 2 million years ago. |
