Bible Question:
I have been a Christian for a long time now, and the infallibility of the Bible was always one of the ways I defended my faith. Recently, however, I came across Donald Morgan's "Biblical Inconsistencies" as posted on infidels.org (http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/donald_morgan/inconsistencies.shtml). While many of these I recognize and can easily refute, some other ones start to make me wonder. Why would God let so many little problems into his word? |
Bible Answer: Violist I would like to propose a different line of thought than the other answers - go ahead and study the differences or 'inconsistencies'. I will guarantee you two things: first, you will find that everything will make perfect sense, providing you truly commit yourself to understanding. If you decide to only take a superficial approach to this, then it will continue to confuse you. Second, by commiting yourself to understanding these 'inconsistencies', you will gain a significantly greater knowledge of the Bible. Go ahead, say a prayer to the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom, and dig in - and if you get stuck, bring the question back to this forum and there will be plenty of people. In Mark 4:10-12 and Mt 13:10-14, Jesus explained to His disciples why some people will not understand the parables and others will - so it's a little like this situation. Good luck and if you put your heart into it, I think you'll enjoy discovering the Truth. Brian |
