Bible Question: Does the Bible specify as to whom we should pay our tithes? |
Bible Answer: Welcome HeatherM, In the Old Testament the tithes went to the Levites, the keepers of the Tabernacle. (Num 18:26 "Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When ye take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance..."). Today, it would be your pastor if you offer any. For again Scripture says, 1Ti 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 1Ti 5:18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. Tithing is good and acceptable unto the Lord. But be careful not to get bound by legalism. For Jesus, "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;"(Col 2:14) Hope this helps, terrib |
