Bible Note: I am not saying that falty faith was the problem and that if it appears tha one backslid then they were never a true believer to start with. That is not solid reasoning and is not consistant with the teaching of Scripture. By eternal security I mean that those who are "believers" - which implies a lifestyle of obedience - in Chirst need not be concerned that they are not saved. Those who commit sin have an advocate to speak to the Father (1 John 2:1), but those who persist in their sinful living without repentence do not (1 John 2:3-6). It is true Jesus promised that no one and nothing can take them out of His hand who are His, but God doesn't force believers to continue to walk with Him and His word declares that they can become deceived and wind up in hell. Those who come to Christ and at some future point then turn away from Him by their own free will chosing to enjoy a lifestyle of forbidden practices may disqualifies himself for the prize. Even Paul recognized this was possible for himself when he wrote, "No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize" (1 Corinthians 9:27). The writer of Hebrews also discusses the subject of falling away and continuing in willful sin after being saved. "If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearul expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of god."
