AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Timothy 3:16 And great, we confess, is the mystery [the hidden truth] of godliness: He (Jesus Christ) who was revealed in human flesh, Was justified and vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory. |

Bible Note: Darcy - Perhaps this will help. The word "creed" comes from the Latin "credere" which simply means "to believe." "Credo," is the first word in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, as they first appeared in the Latin language), and means "I believe." So when one says, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God," the words become in actuality a creed, a statement of faith. There is a denomination that says, "We have no creed but Christ." But even in saying this, they state their creed. They have stated what they believe, and that's all a creed is. But that is all a creed is. It is not Scripture and to the extent that it contradicts Scripture in any way, it is worthless...... My communion, SBC, does not impose authorative creeds upon its communicants and, unless I am much mistaken, neither does yours. But both have issued statements of faith, a set of fundamental beliefs and guiding principles which are common to at least the majority of members of both communions. But, unlike some communions, these creeds, or sets of fundamental beliefs, in your communion and mine are statements of belief by which members are not bound, and they are not liturgical, i.e., they do not constitute a rite prescribed for public worship. I don't know whether I've shed more light for you or darkened your window, but I do hope it helps somewhat. --Hank |
