Bible Question: could I please have some help with this passage. Some of the churches in my town are promoting the use of make up as a way of looking beautiful for God. This is causing quite a few arguments among the women, but even more so amongst the men! Some are saying that it is cultural and some are saying that it is worldly. The people who are promoting the make up are handing out free make up packs in church. Would love to know what you all think God's best. John D |
Bible Answer: Well first off, I don't see why the church needs to hand out free make up packs in the church. If they are trying to make some women feel that they need the makeup in order to serve Jesus Christ, then they are simply wrong. However, if we are to read the passage you used, it is not saying that there is something wrong with gold and pearls. It is the theme throughout much scripture that nothing can be above God in your life. If the pearls are more important to have on than being in Church and praising God, then there is an issue. But if a woman or man for that matter is wanting to present themself to their God and they want to look beautiful in doing so, we have no right to say anything negative about it. I mean if we take scripture out of context you can look at verse 8 and say that men can only pray while lifting up holy hands. But that would certainly mean a lot of us have broken that rule wouldn't it? So again, God is not against make up and earrings, he is a God of the heart, its what in your heart that concerns him. |
