Subject: Do not quench the Spirit |
Bible Note: Hi Suzyq, That is an interesting "word picture" for us to consider. I can see the spirit being quenched in that way. When you went on to talk about what "the spirit would want of you" I felt that you were really talking about the Spirit Himself rather than the desired fire that is given. In other words when you talk about what is wanted of you, you are speaking to the possibility of a will, a purpose, and you are talking about a Person. So I would have wanted you to capitalize Spirit. I wonder if you would consider the idea, talking from the viewpoint of capitalizing Deity, of being baptized with fire and the holy spirit. In other words are the translators/interpreters of the Scriptures correct in their rendering of Luke 3:16, "John answered and said to them all, 'As for me, I baptize you with water; but (One) is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." Is this correct or could there be a distinguishing between the Giver and the gift? From the heart, Ray |
