Bible Question: Now I am curious. What is the purpose of this statement regarding "Gabriel? |
Bible Answer: The NAB and the NASB have "the voice of the archangel" but do not say "Gabriel". However, God usually sends angels to announce important arrivals like the birth of John the Baptist and the Incarnation of the Son in Luke 1. There are only three angels named in the Scripture: Michael and Gabriel in Protestant bibles and also Raphael in Catholic bibles. Gabriel is: strength of God or God is strong; Michael: who is like God; and Raphael: God heals. Gabriel is not called an archangel in the bible, but only in the Book of Enoch, where seven archangels are named. There Gabriel is not a messenger but one of the angels that stands before God. Gabriel tends to be associated with messianic fulfillment. In Luke, he is modelled after his appearance in Daniel Emmaus |
