NASB | 1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 1 Thessalonians 4:15 For we say this to you by the Lord's [own] word, that we who are still alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede [into His presence] those [believers] who have fallen asleep [in death]. |
Subject: do we go to heaven when we die or sleep |
Bible Note: When we die we will be with our the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 4:15 the word prevent is phthano fthan'-o which is a primary verb; to be beforehand, i.e. anticipate or proceed; by extension to have arrived at: — (already) attain, come, prevent. We that are alive and remain till the coming of the Lord shall not prevent which is to say we shall not precede them that are dead. He says this because we cannot precede them if they are already there; they have already risen. (See 2 Corinthians 5:6) |
