Bible Question:
Dear All: I feel a call, of more than a passing interest, in Russian Orthodoxy. By this I do not mean Roman Catholicism, but to Eastern Orthodoxy, of which Catholicism broke off in the Great Schism of 1054 AD. I can clearly see, historically, how this Church is the true apostolic Church handed down from the Apostles. I would be interested to know if any here are of that Church. I would also be interested for any references on reading about this Church. If this is the wrong forum for a discussion about this, please point me in a direction that is more appropriate. Thank you for your kind responses. In Christ, Beensetfree |
Bible Answer: Hi Beensetfree, I want to share with you some Bible texts but I would like for you to prayfully read these texts on idols. In Galatians idolatry is listed as the works of the flesh Gal5:20. In 1 John 5:21 it states to keep away from idols. In the old testiment Deuteronomy 5:6,7,8,9, 10 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.You shall not make for yourself any carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep my commandments. Bible is clear about idols. The Bible is the book to base all spiritual experience by to know truth. Worship is about God and the Word says who we worship and how by using the Word as our standard. John4:24 says that God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. If you want to read more on the origin of churches there is a book by Edward Gibbon named the History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire Volume II, chapter 28, p.619 Vol.IV chapter 49, pp.69,249,250,252, 253 It talks about how the early church stared introducing symbolic adoration and it was to appease the unbelieving people at the time to worship God. Yet the Word of God forbid it. Read for yourself 1 John prayerfully. The Bible speaks very strongly about idol worship look at Rev 9:20. We are living in end times and in Matthew 24:23 24,25,26,27 it talks about people saying that Christ was here or there but it was false. Then if anyone says to you, Look here is the Christ or There Do not believe it For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders, so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, Look He is in the desert Do not go out; or Look, He is in the inner rooms Do not believe it. For as the lightening comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. May God guide you. sparrow-l |
