Bible Question: I have felt that God has impressing upon me over the last 20 years to honor the Sabbath. I see all the way back to God's initial creation and even in the Ten Commandments that we are to honor the Sabbath. What I want to know is WHY Christians are not honoring the Sabbath when it is written clearly we are to do so. EVEN IF we "thought" or "think" that the Sabbath is on Sunday the VAST MAJORITY of Christians are not refraining from buying or selling and are not refraining from "doing their own pleasure" on that day. I have gone personally in and out of personal "revelation" on this issue and have honestly honored the Sabbath for about half of the last 20 years in long sequences of years. Isn't this part of our obedience to the word to honor the Sabbath? SUNday is actually the day to "worship the sun". Whether or not we all join a church that honors the Sabbath it seems like we should as Christians be honoring it on Saturday. Any comments. |
Bible Answer: Hi, sincerebeliever! I agree with you partially... the Sabbath (7th day/day of rest) demands that we occupy ourselves with things that are of the Lord and to refrain from doing mundane labor... I cannot agree with you more! Society has polluted Christendom and much of their "rest" has become ours... I've known "Christians" who use Sunday as the fallguy: leaving everything for Sunday--all sorts of manual labor, feasts, financial transactions, shopping... it seems that everything but family/God oriented activities are scheduled! I cannot agree with your determination that Sunday is a day to worship the sun... do we have a Sabbathday on the calendar? Which name of Yahweh translates to El Saturday? It really doesn't work, now does it? Are you aware that in the beginning there were no days of the week? Yahweh did not start Creation on the first business day (known to us today as Monday) nor did He rest on Saturday or Sabbathday--He rested on the seventh day! Jesus resurrection was on the first day of the week (Sunday is known to us as the first day of the week), Christians celebrate His resurrection day as our Sabbath! Please, continue to respect the Lord by keeping the Sabbath (7th day rest) and help others around you to do the same--but please, remember that the Lord tuaght us that the Sabbath was made for us and not the other way around... we can honor both the Sabbath and the Lord by keeping Sunday (the first day of the week: Christ's day of resurrection) as our Sabbath... Remember, there's no command in Scripture that tells us not to worship in the synagogues... but clearly that was a practice that Christians had to change! I suggest to you that you think on this in reference to the Sabbath, perhaps you might come to the same conclusion that I have: the day of the Lord is Sunday hence as a Christian my Sabbath must be His day! God Bless! Angel |
