NASB | Philippians 2:7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 2:7 but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. |
Bible Question:
If Jesus had sinned what would have been His status...for example, if He had fallen down and worshipped Satan? |
Bible Answer: Jesus is fully human, but He was not born with the same sinful nature that we are born with. He was tempted in the same way we are (temptations were put before Him by Satan) yet remained sinless because God cannot sin. It's against His very nature (Matthew 4:1/Hebrews 2:18,4:15/James 1:13). Sin is by definition breaking the Law. God created the Law. The Law is what God would or would not do - so.. sin is anything that God would not do by His very nature. If Jesus could have sinned, He'd still be able to sin today because He retains the same essence He did while living here on earth. To say Jesus could sin is to say God could sin. Colossians 1:19.. "For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell." |
