NASB | Philippians 1:15 Some, to be sure, are preaching Christ even from envy and strife, but some also from good will; |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Philippians 1:15 Some, it is true, are [actually] preaching Christ out of envy and rivalry [toward me--for no better reason than a competitive spirit or misguided ambition], but others out of goodwill and a loyal spirit [toward me]. |
Subject: Preaching from envy and strife? |
Bible Note: I don't think that those who preached out of selfsih ambition sought to make Paul envious or cause him distress. I suspect that they sought personal attention - what preacher doesn't like an audience?!! Perhaps you are aware of churches that "compete" for saints? This is an example that comes to mind. Also, I don't think that Paul would respond the way he did if these preachers were not "brethern." He would have exposed any heresy. These are MY opinions, check out a study bible for more info.
