Subject: Are faithful Jews saved? |
Bible Note: Hi Robin, I don't know that we can say the Sinai Covenant actually saved anyone. Life came in the keeping of the Law (Gal 3:12). Had any of them kept the law, they would have entrance into heaven. But none could, so substitutionary sacrifice was given. But that sacrifice didn't remove sin, it only covered sin. Heb 10:4 "For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins." Only in Jesus' death is sin truly and finally dealt with. Heb 10:10 "By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." This New Covenant replaces the Old, and with the destruction of the temple in 70 AD, animal sacrifice according to the Law cannot even be made. Heb 10 8 After saying above, "SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them" (which are offered according to the Law), 9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second. So the Old Covenant has been replaced by the New Covenant. Even so, the Law can only point one to Christ. Gal 3:21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. Gal 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. Hebrews 10 explains in depth the answer to this question. There is a newer and better way, and an only way. Love in Christ, Mark |
