AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 5:9 'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, [Is 42:8; 48:11] |
Bible Question:
Refering to 2 Kings 5:18 - Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon--when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing." 19 Then he said to him, "Go in peace." So he departed from him a short distance. Does this mean that there are exceptions ? |
Bible Answer: "Naaman was not asking for permission to worship the god Rimmon, but to do his civil duty, helping the king get down and up as he bowed" (Life Application Study Bible, Tyndale House, 1996). 2 Kings 5 15Then Naaman and his entire party went back to find the man of God. They stood before him, and Naaman said, "I know at last that there is no God in all the world except in Israel..." 17Then Naaman said, "All right, but please allow me to load two of my mules with earth from this place, and I will take it back home with me. From now on I will never again offer any burnt offerings or sacrifices to any other god except the LORD. 18However, may the LORD pardon me in this one thing. When my master the king goes into the temple of the god Rimmon to worship there and leans on my arm, may the LORD pardon me when I bow, too." 19"Go in peace," Elisha said. So Naaman started home again. (2 Kings 5:15, 17-19 :: New Living Translation (NLT)) |
