AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 5:9 'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous (impassioned) God [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, [Is 42:8; 48:11] |
Bible Question:
Refering to 2 Kings 5:18 - Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon--when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing." 19 Then he said to him, "Go in peace." So he departed from him a short distance. Does this mean that there are exceptions ? |
Bible Answer: As an aide to Syria’s king, Naaman’s duty demanded that he accompany the king to religious services at the temple of Rimmon in Damascus. Naaman requested that the Lord forgive this outward compromise of his true faith in and commitment to the Lord. MacArthur, J. J. (1997, c1997). The MacArthur Study Bible (electronic ed.) (2 Ki 5:18).
