Bible Note: Dear Sidney, I am trying to answer everyone's helpful posts, but I am falling behind. I believe you and I are engaged in what Hank and Brad coined, "circular banter." I'll just say one more time then I'll quit. As I have read Matt 5:32 and 19:9, the meaning I get is that Jesus proclaims that there is no other reason for divorce other than sexuality immorality. Anyone who divorces and remarries for any other reason, commits adultery. Why wouldn't Jesus include in the exemptions list along with sexual immorality, domestic violence, forced marriages, incarceration, and couples unequally yoked where one of them leaves? Are you saying these texts apply only to the Pharisees and without any other possibilities, the only legitimate reason for getting a divorce was sexuality immorality and nothing else? Okay, brother Sidney, you have the last word. Thank you so very much for all your help. Pete |
