NASB | Deuteronomy 21:23 his corpse shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is accursed of God), so that you do not defile your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Deuteronomy 21:23 his body shall not hang all night on the tree, but you shall most certainly bury him on the same day (for he who is hanged is cursed by God), so that you do not defile your land which the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance. [Gal 3:13] |
Bible Question: Why is anyone "accursed of God" who is hung? Any significance to being hung on a tree? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mommapbs! Basically, the "curse" simply refers to the fact that anyone who has been hung on a tree (i.e. - executed) has committed the worse kinds of captial offenses. Thus, it is an indication of their spiritual status. A murder, or other capital offender, would by definition be someone who has violates the most serious laws of God. Thus, they were hung because they were cursed, not cursed because they were hung! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
