Bible Note: Hi Psalm 46:10, This verse you have chosen will supply you with the core of your answer. "Be still," He says, "and know that I am God." Without knowing any more than I do about your situation, I can say this. God has a plan. Since your daughters are now living with their father and step-mother, your control and influence will be somewhat limited in their lives. But the Holy Spirit has full access to their hearts. There are a number of factors at work here, the fashion culture of the times, the rebelliousness of teenagers, the influence of those around them, and their own internal sense of propriety and taste. But all of these things are either allowed free reign, or are brought into submission to God, and so I believe the main factor to be their relationship with God. As their parent, as much as is possible for you, it is your responsibility to set a Godly example, to provide Godly rules and guidelines, and to train them in Godly principles and behaviors. Again, since they do not live with you, you may be limited in what you can do. One powerful tool that is available to you is prayer. Pray for their spiritual growth, daily, hourly, constantly. Pray that they be protected from the evil influences of our culture. Our attire, while important, is more a reflection of what is inside of us. If we are Godly in our hearts, we will be Godly in our wardrobe. When possible, since they are your children, establish controls on what they can and can't wear. If possible, prayerfully discuss your concerns with their father and stepmother. But focus your energies and opportunities on their spiritual growth, knowing that our Father in Heaven will see to their sanctification. It is God who changes hearts, and it is our hearts that must be changed. I hope this somehow helps, and I will join you in prayer for these girls. Love in Christ, Mark |
