AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 4:13 until we all reach oneness in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, [growing spiritually] to become a mature believer, reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ [manifesting His spiritual completeness and exercising our spiritual gifts in unity]. |
Bible Question:
Why is it knowledge of the Son of God ... fullness of Christ? Paul uses Son of God only three times (Rom 1:4; 2Co 1:19; Gal 2:20) and we are to know Eph 1:17 (Father), Col 1:9-10 (His will and God), Col 2:2 (Christ), 2Pe 1:2-3 (God and of Jesus our Lord), 2Pe 2:20 (Lord and Savior Jesus Christ), when Paul and Peter refer knowing (epignosis) someone. So why "Son of God" and not Christ? Searcher |
Bible Answer: Brother, it is essential that we know the Son of God (John 3:16-18). Jesus the Christ is the Son of God but there are many who do not believe this. JW's for example! Judaism for example believes in a Messiah but does not accept that Jesus is the Messiah nor that Jesus is the Son of God (I think that's right???? I'm not an expert on Judaism so my intent is not to apply doctrinal understanding of their teachings but that's how I understand it). John 17:3 (NASB) "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. Matthew 16:16-17 (NASB) 16:16 Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." 16:17 And Jesus said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. John 20:30-31 (NASB) 20:30 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 20:31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. John 3:16-18 (NASB) 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 3:17 "For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 3:18 "He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. I have to admit I've been a bit perplexed by your post/question. The way it is presented leaves me struggling with trying to understand what exactly it is you are asking so I may be way off base in my response. I don't know how to separate the Son of God and Jesus the Christ when scripture refers to either way of presenting it. Sorry if I've just confused the matter but if you could possibly phrase the question different that someone like me might be better able to understand??? Your brother in Christ the Son of God, Steve |
