Bible Question: In cell based churches, what is the role of a cell leader? |
Bible Answer: Ruth101, I don’t know about other “cell-based churches” but the one my family attends have numerous “cells”. With 20,000 plus or minus “members”, besides the thousands of kids, and only 30ish pastors, it takes MANY to “lead”. But the cell groups themselves are NOT limited to “members” of the congregation. They included friends, co-workers, and neighbors of “members”. The cell leader’s main job is to work him/herself out of a job. Jesus commanded His disciples to make disciples teaching them (new disciples) to obey all that He commanded His disciples. The cell leaders “keep” the group in the right direction at hand while at the same time encouraging the rest of that cell group to “do their ministry”. In plain English – preach the gospel to make disciples, and teach them (new disciples) to preach the gospel to make disciples, and teach them (new disciples) to preach the gospel – and so on and on and on. Ephesians 4:12-13 explains the “why”. “…to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until WE ALL reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” T’oma |
