Bible Question:
Hi Steve, So, the next question would be 'why' or 'how' did the church change from educators to entertainers? It is not a new situation... Heb 5:12-13 KJVR (12) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (13) For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Please speak to the lack of growth with regards to pastor/teachers. |
Bible Answer: Hello Thomas8, Sorry for the delay, but I see another has stepped in to answer. The move from education to entertainment has been a cyclical pattern of church history since the apostles died. Factions and leaders in the church would develop using what they called "Biblical truth" to reaching itching ears. In another vein, the literacy level of those reached with the gospel through much of history was not very high. This prompted the use of liturgies which could be memorized or otherwise followed in order for the clergy to teach the laity. Too many got lazy about teaching and learning, so it didn't happen. There is no single time or cause for this downgrade. Steve |
