Bible Question:
Can a person who is UNSAVED store up treasure in heaven? I am wondering if only works done for God AFTER WE ARE SAVED result in treasure in heaven? Do the good works of a non-christian store up and then are creditable to them when/if they get saved? I am looking for scriptural reference to support answer. Logically, it wouldn't do an UNSaved person any eternal good to store up treasure because it won't lessen their condemnation in hell. But, a person might have done tons of "good" deeds BEFORE they were saved. I am wondering if our heart was not toward God then maybe the treasure isn't stored in heaven until we are saved? And, do UNSAVED people receive their "reward" while on earth only? For instance, does Proverbs 19:17, mean that the unsaved will be repayed by the Lord while on earth? I mean lots of people have pity on the poor especially at the Christmas time... I am figuring a shack (figuratively)in heaven is better than anything I can imagine...but, I am interested in pleasing Jesus and storing treasure in heaven. I am saved. Thanks |
Bible Answer: Greetings DKorwood, An unsaved person is dead in their trespasses and sins. There are no redeeming qualities in those who are not saved. Can a person who is unsaved store up treasure in heaven, you ask? Absolutely not! There is absolutely no access to heaven that is granted to a person who is not saved. Only after we are saved can we store up treasure in heaven, for the kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field (Matt. 13:44), and every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like a head of a household, who brings out of his treasure things new and old. (Matt. 13:52) Following Jesus is a prerequisite for being a disciple (John 21:22), and we only have treasure in heaven if we do the will of God or give up that which is held dearest to us for the sake of Christ (Matt. 19:21; Mark 10:21; Luke 12:33; 18:22). Therefore, only disciples of Christ can store up treasure in heaven, since it is for the sake of Christ in which they store up treasure. And only a disciple of Christ will have access to this treasure in heaven, since no unsaved person will inherit the kingdom of heaven (1 Cor. 6:9). Blessings to you, Makarios |
