Bible Question:
If you die and did not repent of a sin, will you go to hell? Wether the sin is murder or a lie you told, or maybe you stole something in the past, or perhaps you have hate in your heart for another person. |
Bible Answer: Dear 1SOBLESSED: The essential teaching of the New Testament is that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His sacrificial death on the cross and it alone has the power to save -- not works, not baptism, not repentance. His death was voluntary, vicarious, substitutionary, propitiatory and redemptive. See John 10:15; Romans 3:24,25; 1 Peter 2:24. As the old hymn faithfully says, "What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. O precious is the flow that makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing but the blood of Jesus." ---- On the basis of the efficacy of the death of Christ, the believing sinner is freed from the punishment, the penalty, the power and one day the very presence of sin. He is declared righteous, given eternal life in Christ, and adopted into the family of God. See Romans 3:25; 5:8,9; 2 Cor. 5:14,15; 1 Peter 2:24 and 3:18. --Hank |
