AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 1:4 just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love |

Bible Note: I agree... Please excuse my interjection. I agree that we have free will. However, salvation is not a matter of human will. John 1:12-13 says that it was a matter of God's will. Note also in Ephesians 2 that it is only God who is acting. We can take no credit for our salvation even in the tiniest degreee. This is very precious and very humbling. There is nothing in me that warranted His choice of me. The wonder is not that God did not choose some, the wonder is that He chose anyone! Remember, even God has limitted power of the will. God can do nothing that is contrary to His nature. God can do nothing that He does not want to do. But is that really different than any sapient being? We cannot do anything contrary to our nature. Even a dog cannot be a bird just by willing it to be true. |
