AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ephesians 1:4 just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love |
Subject: He "actually picked us out for Himself" |
Bible Note: AMPLIFIED Ephesians 1:4 Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love. S.W.: I am replying to a Note you posted in a previous thread. Since that thread is quite old and overly long, and thus slow to work with, I will begin a new thread. In your previous Note you write: 'Kalos wrote: "This is also why the Bible repeatedly stresses that salvation is wholly God's work". 'Rosponse: (sic) Is it really? Your statement does'nt (sic) convince me of being biblical, nor rational.' First, may I point out that the above is not "my" statement? The source of the statement is given in parentheses at the end of the quote. In reply to me you write: "Is it really?" My answer: Yes, it really is. Your reply consists of human reasoning based upon false (unproven) assumptions. What I quoted is more than adequately proved by the Word of God. You don't really believe that the one verse you quoted cancels out and contradicts the many verses I have presented, do you? With which of the following Scriptures do you disagree? I posted: '. . . The effect of all this is that no sinner can ever make the first move in the salvation process. This is what Jesus meant in John 6:44, when He said, "No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him." '. . . This is also why the Bible repeatedly stresses that salvation is wholly God's work. In Acts 13:48 we read, "And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed." '. . . Acts 16 tells us that Lydia was saved when, " . . . the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul." '. . . Romans 8:29-30 states, "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren; and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified." '. . . Ephesians 1:4-5,11 reads, "Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will . . . also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will." '. . . Ephesians 2:8 suggests that even our faith is a gift from God. 'In 2 Thessalonians 2:13, the apostle Paul tells his readers, "God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation." '. . . Second Timothy 1:9 informs us that God "has saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity." '. . . (article by John MacArthur at www.gty.org - listed in Issues and Answers archives)' I will not be drawn into an endless debate over the Bible doctrine of Election. However, if you care to directly address what I've posted in this Note, I would be happy to reply to you. Thank you for your interest and participation in this topic. Grace to you, Kalos |
