Bible Note: Exegesis is thorough in this book. The contributors have not made a meely mouthed go of it. They have done the work to not leave open the opposition to their conclusions. I don't think they do that on other subjects that they write on. I have read several of them in other books. They seem to feel like this is one of those landmark times in history on the need to have these issues thought out better. I have not read all of this book, but I must say I have been impressed by everything I have seen so far. Chapter three is my favorite. I think that this strongly written book is greatly needed in our day and age in the church. Gender issues all strike right at the core of our run amuck culture. The church is not different enough and it needs the strong statements in this book. I think pragmatism is what we would fall into when we attempt to solve the relative deadness of certain churches to have adequate male leaders, and so supplant their job with women. While I comprehend that you did not say that you like this, you and I know that there has been quite a history of women leading churches and starting huge -- many cultic -- followings. I feel like just not staffing positions with anyone if there is not an qualified man. God will watch over his church, and we must follow the creation order. |
