NASB | 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life]. |
Bible Question: What does Luke 14:26 mean for christians today? |
Bible Answer: Hi, searcher58! It means the same thing it meant then: Love the Lord (both Yahweh, the Father, and Jesus, the Son) with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your might! Placing anything or anyone above God essentially makes that thing/person an idol--we are commanded to have One God! In Luke 14:26 Jesus is revealing to us the old name: I Am!--He appropriates that which was His from the beginning! (John 1:1-4) He commands that if we are to follow Him we must give up the old existence (life in the world, by the world, and for the world) and become the new creation (John 4:23-24 and John 1:12)--the new creature lives in Jesus and for Jesus! God Bless! Angel |
