Subject: On being heavenly minded? |
Bible Note: Thanks for your wonderful response. This oft-used quote bothered me as it seemed to be an excuse to "shrink back" - especailly when one comes across a believer with an "holier than thou" attitude. Yet as you have observed, when we decide to walk with the Lord, it is on this journey where we are united with His will to be used for HIS purposes. God has a plan for His creation and He desires our participation in that plan. We are here on earth to serve Him, and to be served by Him (The Son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many Mt 20:28)! We are His instruments through which HE serves those whose lives intersect with ours! When we are truly "heavenly minded" we realize that eternity is our destination; life is fleeting and temorary. When we know that we are "heaven bound" and the only "treasure" that we can "store up in heaven" is what God treasures (people), it makes us even more earthly minded as we understand the urgency of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with others. I suspect that those who come across as "holy rollers" are winding their will around what they think God wants them to do rather than to submit to His hand. I find it hard to see how they can be any earthly good with such an attitude; but who am I to judge? God can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear - all He requires is a willing pig! It has taken me a long time to decide to walk with Him, but there is no better path, and no better Travelling companion. (And I like the feel of silk better too!) Indeed, He is saving the BEST for last - oh what a Day that will be! Blessings, mommapbs |
