Bible Question: my brother is dying, and I wonder why God is allowing him to suffer through his pain. |
Bible Answer: Dear ronjescal, Your why question in concern with sufferings has brought my memory back to a TV special programme I watched 2 years ago which I like to share. One summer night, while I was working cozily in front of my computer with the air-cond on, a scene on the TV captured my sight when my daughter switched between channels. A programme (maybe produced in the U.S.) with the title "angel without face" presented a surgical case about a little girl who was born with abnormal feature - which I saw a head with some holes on it and you could not tell which are the eyes, nose, mouth. They are just holes. I was so much shocked and heart breaking. I tried to keep on watching the programme but serveral times I could not help to turn my sight away to calm down myself and swallow my tears. I finally failed to finish watching it and decided to swtich it off. Just like you, I asked God - why, why such an innocent child has to experience all the sufferings. How painful were her parents to see her suffer. I tried to find answers in the bible. I immediately recalled John 9:1-3 and the book of Job. Unfortunately, stubborn me was still not convinced. A week later, when I was on a bus and musing. The girl's face re-appeared. My eyes were blurred with tears. At that moment, God started to answer me. I saw that the face was no longer the poor little girl's but that is my own face (a sinner who has lost her God given face). My situation is much much more worse than the little girl that cost the blood of Jesus for remedy. How painful is our Lord and Saviour to see us in such a poor situation! What can I say but silent myself with a thankful heart and pray for God's grace and mercy to empower my walk with Jesus. Thanks for your time to read my post. Shalom Azure |
