Bible Question: my brother is dying, and I wonder why God is allowing him to suffer through his pain. |
Bible Answer: Dear ronjescal, Welcome to the forum! We will pray for your brother and your family. The "why" questions are always extremely difficult. Indeed, often our Lord does not tell us why things are as they are, but reserves that knowledge to Himself (Deuteronomy 29:29). In other words, those things are His business, and not our own. It is quite possible that we even lack sufficient intelligence to understand the answer if it were to be given to us. Most of the time, though, I think we ask why, not because we want an answer, but because we think that the situation is unfair. Fairness, however, is not ours to decide. Ultimately we know that all things will take place in such a way that it glorifies God. Although it is hard to accept right now, when we are with Him, we will cheerfully and praisingly acknowledge that truth in everything. I recall in the book Pilgrims Progress, that Christian and Faithfulness were taken captive. One night in their imprisonment, an angel appeared, telling them that one would die and the other would be set free. The next day Faithfulness was martyred and Christian was freed. Interestingly, Christian considered Faithfulness to be more blessed. First, because His death vindicated the message of his life; and, second, because Faithfulness was now fully sanctified. He was now made perfect in the presence of the very object of our devotion, the Lord Himself. In Him, Doc |
