NASB | 2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit. |
Subject: A major key to spritual growth |
Bible Note: This is a verse that shows us a "tool" that we, as believers, can use "at will" to enhance our spiritual growth and condition. We can behold God's glory (through His Word, prayer, meditation, worship, etc.) knowing that as promised here the Spirit uses the beholding to transform us. The key factor here is found in the phrase "as in a mirror". The mirror of today gives a precise beholding. But the mirror of that day gave a dim beholding. Paul writing to the Corinthians earlier in his first epistle defined what he meant by beholding in a mirror in 1 Corinthians 12:13. For now we see in a mirror dimly... So the Corinthians in the 2nd epistle understood Paul's analogy here. A dim beholding (seemingly unanointed prayer, Bible study, etc) is sufficient to cause and to bring about spiritual transformation in our lives. Beholding His glory, something we do because we "choose" to, even if seemingly unanointed or ineffectual, is actually working to transform it spiritually. And if we do it consistently, over time, transformation will come. |
